Past Is Prologue

On the front of the National Archives in Washington, D.C,
There are two statues. One of a muse has a plaque on its base which reads,
“Past is Prologue.”
The second is an old man with a history book in hand its base reads,
“Study the Past.”

        Destroying Witches!!!

In 1690 Colonial America the Accused was considered legally Guilty until Proven Innocent,

On June 2, 1692, Bridgett Bishop of the Massachusetts colony was accused of not living the Puritan lifestyle. She wore black clothing, odd costumes and her coat was strangely cut.

Her main accuser was a 12 year old girl, Ann Putnam who said Bishop caused her pains.
Bishop was thus accused of being a witch, immediately found guilty of living an immoral lifestyle which proved she was a Witch!

On June 10, 1692 just eight days later - Bridgett was hung.

In 1706 fourteen years later, Ann Putnam aged 26, confessed she had made it all up.
There is no record of what Bridgett had to say about the outcome.

        A New Hysteria!
Last week a deluge of stories reached a crescendo with Charlie Rose and Al Franken of women running into the public square screaming a torrent of accusations against icons such as Bill Cosby, Rose, and even Roy Moore in Alabama of all sorts of what? High crimes? Misdemeanors? Or just bad judgement?
        Sexual Harassment!!!
Which has a novel feature, it is a crime which has no expiration date on it, previously unique only to the crime of Murder.

In each case the American public held its breath in anticipation of a punishment as quickly applied as that of Bridgett Bishop’s hanging in 1692. Imagine Cosby, Rose, Spacey, Moore, all hanging like Saddam Hussien their bodies kicking and writhing to the chants of their accusers.

The accusers  -  a parade of elderly women weeping and cringing in the light of the cameras led by the hand by, long past her shelf life date, attorney Gloria Allred came on our TV screens to make their charges. We were sternly warned that we must believe them, because a woman wouldn’t lie about such a traumatic event. A variation of women don't lie about this when accusing men of sexual assault. All of the stories were  dredged up with the help of Washington Post investigative female reporters intense preparations and incentives from the women's teenage years, often 30 to 40 years ago. As one commented, I felt it was time I got something out of it for myself!  Anita Hill where are you?

In the face of women’s resurgence of power to the good old days of 1692 men are especially put on notice as the parade marches by. Object  or resist at your own peril boys.

Senator Elizabeth Warren who for all the world looks like Rosa Klepp  SPECTER #3 assassin with her dagger tipped shoes in “From Russia with Love,” listed sins which will no longer be tolerated in this new era of sexual equality. Women will not be denied their justice. Pinching butts, touching breasts, bumping hips, or telling dirty jokes are all listed by Warren on Stephen Colbert’s night show. Don’t let her kick you in the butt boys!

Amazing isn’t it? In 1692 teenage girls could cast accusations which ended peoples lives. In 2017 aging women can recall mens sins from 40 years earlier without fear of being doubted or challenged by reason. Crosby, Moore, Franken, Charlie Rose, Kevin Spacey and a bunch of others all see their world brought down by the new standard of American Jurisprudence. For those of you who might have forgotten, until last week under the U.S. Constitution it had been Innocent Until Proven Guilty.

But to be honest, seeing how bedraggled Charlie has become in the past year or two, it is probably a mercy to the man to put him out to pasture. Rather than have #3 kick him in the butt or hang him on a meat hook.

Anyway, the message to men is simple, The Accused is Guilty until proven Innocent. And if you know what's good for you, you won't try!

Past is Prologue. Study the Past.
